Generator hookups

A listed transfer method is required so generator power cannot backfeed the grid; ESA rules apply.

What this covers

Transfer switches or interlock kits and inlet boxes for portable or standby generators.

Do this first

  • Keep clear of sparking outlets, burning smells or water near electrical equipment.
  • Do not keep resetting a breaker that trips immediately.
  • Note which rooms lost power and photograph the panel if it is safe.
